Upcoming Events Kentucky is a wonderful and exciting place to visit. There always seems to be something going on in this state, so tourists never have to worry about being bored or not being able to find anything to do. Of course, it’s up to visitors to the state to do their research and find out when their favorite events are happening so as to avoid being disappointed. To help Kentucky visitors and/or residents, we’ve compiled a list of some of Kentucky’s most popular events that shouldn’t be missed! One big event in Kentucky is the “100 Years on the Ohio River,” which is an annual historical reenactment held at Riverside each September. This reenactment details monumental events from the founding of Louisville all the way up to the Civil War. Other important September events include the Bluegrass Balloon Festival, the Corn Island Storytelling Festival, Danger Run, and the Jeffersontown Gaslight Festival. Memorial Day weekend is another fun time of year in Kentucky. The Abbey Road on the River festival is held on this weekend. The event is a large concert meant to celebrate the music of the Beatles. Lots of different bands perform, and there is food, drinks,and other forms of entertainment to enjoy as well. The Starlight Strawberry Festival is also held on this fun packed weekend each year. Other events held in the state throughout the year include the World’s Largest Halloween Party, held at the Louisville Zoo for several nights in October; the WHAS Crusade for Children held the first weekend in June; the St. Joseph’s Orphan Picnic held in August; the St. James Court Art Show in Old Louisville during October; the Louisville Zombie Attack held on Bardstown Road on August 29th each year; the Kentucky Derby Festival held in April through May; the Forecastle Festival in July, and many, many more.
